Yes! Black Women Need Sunscreen too!

It’s a common misconception that women of color do not need sunscreen this is simply not true. While it is well known that skin dark skinned people do not burn and are at less of a risk for skin cancer than our Caucasian counterparts that does not mean we don’t contract skin cancer. Dr. Perry Robins, President of Skin Cancer Foundation, has stated that while people of color are much less likely to get skin cancer they are also much more likely to die from it due to late detection.

The melanin that black people have in their skin equals 13.4 SPF, however, to protect against skin cancer is recommended to wear an SPF of 30 or higher.
